Should You Get Exposure Before You’re Developed

In this video we’re going to talk about the developmental process versus exposure. And going to share with you the difference between the two and how it can actually benefit your athlete…

Exposure vs Development

I see this a lot where parents and the athletes, want to be developed but what happens, which is pretty common, since the parent is their kid, they have placed them in the NBA already. They don’t understand how hard it is not just to get into the NBA, but to play at a professional level.

You want to make sure that if you’re going to get them exposure, you don’t want to get them exposed. And here’s what I mean by that. There has to be a skill level there.

How Do You Get The Experience?

Let me back up a little bit because you want to get the experience, but they have to have skills in place to get the experience. There’s a lot of organizations out there who are represented by these major camps and major shoe companies where they hold these camps and they want to bring those kids in and they are going to get exposure.

There’s going to be these high level college recruits, scouts, everybody who looks for players because they are looking for the next LeBron, KG or OJ Mayo. They are looking for these next generation hoopers. But if that athlete is not developed yet and haven’t went through the developmental process, there is no reason for them to put them in those tournaments to get exposed.

Are You Getting Developed?

The developmental side, make sure that you get some type of development. Make sure that they plug into an organization that is developing them to make sure that they are accomplishing their goals, and make sure those goals are realistic.

I’m not saying the NBA is impossible to get to, it’s possible. But it is a lot of hard work and there’s going to be a lot of sacrifices that I don’t think parents and athletes understand until they enter the process. And that process comes through the developmental stage.

If you are not ready to be in that developmental stage then you shouldn’t be going to these exposure camps because the developmental stage is needed, it’s part of the process before you even get that exposure.
