Pressure the Ball Handler with Defense
When playing defense, you want to make sure you are putting pressure on the offense. You want him to feel your presence. Put pressure on him. He will not benefit as a defender.and hour teammate will not benefit as an offensive player.
What you want to do, hands behind your back and slide your feet. As you are sliding your feet. As soon as you slide in front, cut him off, you turn, pivot, open up your hips and you can slide and make him change direction. As soon as he go the other way, you slide in front of him, turning to cut him off. Put your foot right out of bounds, so he cannot go by you. He has to change directions.
Do not shortcut yourself, make him change direction. Now he’s going the other way and you slide your feet again.
You are close enough, he can feel your presence. Don’t try to rush just to get the drill over with. Make your teammate work. Cut him off and slide.
If You Have Slow Feet?
Some of you guys have slow feet. If he’s beating you, you got to take two sprints and cut him off so you can get in front of him again. In a game, if you are sliding… and he beats you while you are still sliding. When he turn the corner, there’s no benefit.
You got to get back in front of him. So you are sliding and he beats you, you’re running in front of him to cut him off and making him change directions.
You got to make him change directions, put more pressure so they can handle the basketball.
