In this video, we have highlights from our 7th grade game. We are mic’d up so you can hear what goes on behind the scenes
Mic’d Up…
Don’t catch it and put the ball on the ground. Catch it, look. You got the ball here, we have option here, here, or here. Catch it, you have an option here, if he cuts to the basket got another option here, okay?
Drawing Up A Play…
We’re going to set up like this. Dallas, you take the ball out.
Alex, you go set the screen for Aiden. Aiden, you come on this side. You come on this side, Alex.
If neither one of you don’t get the ball, Max, you come straight through the middle. Pass the ball. You stay in the middle though, the entire time.
It’s like a diamond, okay? Y’all stay in these spots. Pass the ball. Do NOT dribble! You’re going to wear yourself out.
Attacking Offensively and Defensively
When you attack, you’ve got to attack with a purpose. Don’t attack and go up soft. You’ve got to attack looking to score. Don’t look for the foul, look to score, all right?
On defense you’ve got to make sure you protect this middle right here. Don’t overplay, keep them in front of you, all right? We can’t continue to reach. Maybe you can shoot the pass lane down here.
We’re not going to be able to shoot the passing lanes out here, all right?
If you pass over here, then you can shoot the pass lane. But over there, around the free throw line, just keep it in front of you.
Wrapping Up The Game
This is why we always talk about preparation. This is why we talk about you need practice outside of practice, because that’s when you start building that confidence, and when you start having the belief in yourself.
So even if you are like, “Coach don’t know what he’s been talking about, I’ve been working on that,” then there’s a belief in yourself that it doesn’t matter who else says anything, you have to believe in yourself to accomplish it.
But we are not there yet. There’s a lack of belief that we have in ourselves, and a lack of confidence.
- We’re not preparing ourselves. We got to start preparing ourselves.
- You have to look internally and start believing in what you are doing.Believing in the work that you put in.
Once you start putting in the work, it will manifest. But you have to put in the work. You can’t just be on YouTube or 2K and think it’s going to manifest.
You have to actually put in the hours, the time, and then the game will pay you for it. I promise you. But you got to do the work. You can’t skip steps. There’s no shortcut to getting to where you want to go. You’ve got to get on the process.
